Sales and shows have a lot in common

Author and business sales specialist Tom Becka is coming to Santa Fe for a tiffany earrings Wednesday sponsored by the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce in partnership with HK Advertising.

Becka, a friend of HK’s Dave Hayduk, will discuss creating an image, overcoming stage fright, not becoming discouraged by the word “no” and “building your fan base.”

As Becka sees it, every time a salesperson is in front of a client, they are in effect putting on a performance.

“Singing karaoke in and of itself won’t help the salesperson,” Becka said in a press release, “but by learning how to command an audience’s attention, overcoming stage fright and how to manipulate the audience’s emotions, a salesperson can be much more effective when out on the streets.”

Becka hosts a talk show in Omaha, Neb., and as a standup comedian, opened for Jerry Seinfeld and Drew Carey.

In his new book, There is No Business Without the Show, he relates a sales career with show business and discusses how one can use show-business techniques in the business world.

The luncheon, titled Lunch with a Punch with Tom Becka, will be held at the Hilton of Santa Fe tiffanys at 11:45 a.m. The cost is $26 for members, $30 for nonmembers. Reservations are required. Call 988-3279.
